Antoinette Agathe van Hoytema, a member of the Dutch patrician family Van Hoytema, was born as the daughter of Captain Willem Jacob van Hoytema and Jkvr. Agatha Antoinetta von Weiler. As a self-taught artist, she took some lessons with Henk P. Bremmer and at the Art Academy 'Kunstoefening' in Arnhem. Her specialties lay in lithography and oil painting. Van Hoytema was particularly known for her still lifes and portraits in a naturalistic style. In 1939, she exhibited at the 'Onze kunst van heden' exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. As a member of 'De Onafhankelijken,' 'Federatie van B.B.K.,' and the female artists' association 'O.D.I.S.,' her work has a lasting place in museums such as the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo.
